Gives lengthy, detailed description of sweat baths used for sick people among "Alaska Indians" (Tlingit). Will write about Kwaguʼł version of sweat baths. Says that hunter do leave notes for others on trails. Discusses role of dogs, use of dogs wool. Gives particular dogs' names and their owners and tribes. Will work on question of different meaning and translations of Indian names. Gives lengthy example of the name q!om'xālāgEles. Finished a map of Dzawadi River with locations of olachen traps. Talked with head chief Maxwayaledze of Ma'amtagila for the names of traps, but he could only remember two.

- Is working on writing about different kinds of cooking. Work is going slowly as children are very sick with measles. Is taking photos of cooking as well. Very bad weather lately. Half of Mama̱liliḵa̱la village at Fort Rupert washed away. Large sandstone carving was found that has been offered for sale to Hunt. May have been back piece for seat of Maxwa, Mama̱liliḵa̱la chief at Fort Rupert before 1849. Will send photos of it to see if Boas wants it. Would welcome Boas visit to Fort Rupert or trip to New York if called upon.
