- Description
- Has questions about collection sent a few month earlier. Notes discrepancies between description of a mask described by Boas in "The Social Organization and Secret Societies of the Kwakiutl Indians" as a "fool-dancer's mask" but described by Hunt as that of Gepaxoas, a G̱usgimukw ancestor. Expresses understanding that some items are reproductions of implements no longer used. However, the stone head appears to not be an old specimen, but rather a new one. Is concerned that items purported to be old are fraudulently being sold to Hunt. Advises to continue collecting wood carving, but to refrain from collecting "specimens belonging to the dances" until Boas's visit in the spring.

- Description
- Kwak'wala-English dictionary, organized alphabetically according to writing system developed by Franz Boas and George Hunt. Many entries provide references to page and line numbers in Boas's published Kwakiutl volumes where the given term appears. Edited by Boas's daughter Helene Yampolsky in 1948 from Boas's original work, itself based extensively upon Kwak'wala materials recorded by George Hunt from numerous Kwakwaka'wakw speakers and knowledge keepers from the 1890s to the 1930s.

- Description
- Received letter of April 22. Has not received check yet of $125 for 375 pages, but glad it is coming. Not feeling well lately. Feeling age, having recently turned 62. Many tribes came to Alert Bay recently for potlatch and winter dance, which was not like those of old time Kwagu'ł winter dance, such as Boas got to see. "I see some white men came to get old stories from the Indians and you know yourself by looking into the writers books that the stories in them is taken from four or five stories to make one story and it is what I call patched up story as also I see lots of paintings that only made up for sale." Describes several "true history paintings" in the manner of house front paintings demonstrating histories of important figures and mythical creatures. Assents to having his name on the book to be published. Sending "one of my 'pExEla' or doctor songs." "This is the first I gave away of this kind."
