unnecessarily delay his departure, and that a vessel may be procured to
carry a captain to Halifax, [N.S.].; Copy
Informs him that Heath issued orders for returns from troops at the
Highlands; informs him that a captain who may have deserted from Hand's
regiment in 1776 has been captured and requests information about the
latter.
Points out that if the enemy are abroad they are probably superior in
force, orders him to immediately retreat toward the Highlands, and advises
him to "be doubly on your Guard at night."
