Abstract | A personal letter from Julia Rush, in Philadelphia, to her uncle, Samuel Stockton, in London. Julia writes of her affection for her uncle and hopes for his return to Philadelphia soon. Julia also writes of her meeting, swift courtship, and recent marriage to Dr. Benjamin Rush, a prominent Philadelphia physician. She notes that her mother and father made Dr. Rush aware that "I was at my own disposal [entirely]. that they would never say a word to influence me in behalf of any man whatever" in regards to his proposal. | ||
