Abstract | William Carmichael writes to Benjamin Franklin to inform him that he had drawn a bill under his name. He also writes about matters of diplomacy, describing how the Spanish court engaged with diplomats. Carmichael describes his encounters with the new Prussian Minister. Carmichael discusses the news that the Empress of Russia has ordered her diplomats to recognize the United States. He explains that he is frustrated by the lack of information he is given by other American diplomats. At the end of the letter, Carmichael discusses contemporary literature including, Tomás de Yriarte (or Iriarte), Fábulas literarias en verso castellano. He asks Franklin to send Richard Cumberland's Anecdotes of Eminent Painters in Spain, during the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries. | ||
