Received letter of August 27. Sending 4 pages with 23 examples of hEnkwa or saying of wishing an enemy to die. Went to Gwaʼsa̱la village in Smith Inlet to get part of the wailing song from the woman who can tell it. The story covers 23 generations. Has written 87 pages so far. Will send in next mail. Thinks he can get two more examples of this kind of wailing song/story, one G̱usgimukw, one 'Nak'waxda'xw . "I will try to get them, for it is the only true story a woman can tell." "And another thing the woman at Gwaʼsa̱la told me that she would not tell tell anyone about her family historie. It is only the kindness I have towards son [that has] made her tell it to me." Eyesight has been getting worse recently.

Will work first on writing about the "seven brother tribes" of the Kwagu'ł and their first chiefs' name. Describes how this name works. Sending 41 pages of copy receently sent for looking over. Received voucher. Now writing out Ma'amtagila story. Trying to determine location of Māxäs. According to head chief of Ma'amtagila, beginning of tribe was at Gwadzi.
Received letter of February 14. Sending 56 pages on true story of nEnwakawe and Baxbakwalanoxsewe. It is usually shortened when told before or after winter dances by nEnwakawe. Was able to get full version from wife, who is member of that family.
Received letter of January 4. Regarding Tsimshian sayings sent by Boas, could not find anyone who knows of there being similar Kwakiutl sayings. Will work on Kwexagela story after finishing work on secret spirits stories including at least 40 spirits' names. Got much of info from wife who is half 'Nak'waxda'x̱w, half Wuikinuxv. Other names learned at Blunden Harbor, told to Hunt out if sight in the woods. Sending first part of story, 83 pages.
Received letter of June 13. Agrees there are many ways of saying nEmemot or talking about gegEme. Will take full page to explain the latter. Regarding ranks and how they are acquired or achieved, discusses Johnny Wanokw, of a lowest nEmemot of the GwetEla, and his wife MaxwElaogwa, head of a high nEmemot of Walas Kwagu'ł. Discusses how their childrens' names and titles would work accordingly. Will work more on this after completing waxap!alaso story. Asks if Boas received the xokom plant sample sent separately.
Asks for details of how head deformation of G̱usgimukw women was done. Would like written information and small carving of baby in cradle to show how it works. Also asks if body modification for boys was less, gives other specifics, compares to Fort Rupert.
Received letter of March 10 and 13. Has been gathering information on cradling of infants and head stars with help of wife. Gives details on methods and items used among G̱usgimukw and Kwagu'ł. Gives information on nEnwakawe nEmemot. Going to Blunden Harbor to see a Wuikinuxv woman with more information on nEnwakawe songs and names. Working on writing down children's songs.
Received letter of April 5 and 15. Sending pages 316-440. Went to Blunden Harbor to get more information on nEnwakawe song. Many were sick there with "the lagrip." Woman he wanted to speak with there had passed away. Went next to Rivers Inlet, where many were sick also, but was able to get sought information. On the way home, stopped at Xomatsbe and got sick, though now recovered. Many people sick and 30 passed away in Fort Rupert. Working on information on cradling of children. Lists names of several plants with plans on how to send samples. Lists amounts and payments for recent work. Hopes for more work soon.
