AbstractA portrait of Paine in a noose hung on a lamp-bracket inscribed "Rights of This Man". A figure in the shape of a demon, identified below as Mr. Equality, or Louis Philippe Joseph d'Orléans, also known as Philippe Égalité, peers from the side. A mock escutcheon emblazoned with pairs of stays and the motto: "Common Sense" hangs nearby. The image accompanies an ironical defense of Paine, printed below.
