Wrote out all the questions from September 11 letter. These questions and those of October 13 letter will be difficult to answer. Wife has been away for four weeks to see her people. Sending 20 pages. Sent pages on different names on September 3.
Sending 42 pages on different brother tribes of the Kwagu'ł. Mentions details included, such as different names of head chiefs, dogs' names, and houses' names. This information was difficult to obtain. Says Boas will be first person to have the complete information. Describe purpose of dog for warding off curses and intruders. Many people away at canneries at present. Will work on waxap!alaso story next.

Returning sheet of questions with answers on it, as well as two sheets showing different ways of saying "paddle now to go," "get out of canoe," "get ready now," and "house." Explains that similar phrases Boas asked about were not miswritten but are used for different situations. Sending pressed q!esena and various seeds. Working on lists of nEmemot and head chiefs.
Received letter of March 28. Goes through numerous words from the list sent by Boas with that letter, providing numerous examples to explain in detail of why he writes the language the way he does, especially certain sounds.
Received letter of March 28. Sending back 18 pages of copy sent for review. Explains differences in spelling and sources of mistakes. Strongly complains of ongoing problems with slow payments from Washington. Notes that he is making less money on this work compared to if he was trapping. Unhappy about the difficulties of the work.
Received letter of July 27 and August 6. Discusses vouchers and payments. Pay rate of 40 names per page is too low, due to difficulty of gathering this information, more difficult than writing stories. Problem of confusion about pages and payment getting worse. Needs resolution. Will send "part of my dictionary to show you that we are only using about one third of the language of the Kwaguʼł."
Received letter of August 12. Defers to Boas to sort out mistake in page numbering. Sending pages 1023-1086 "in answer to some questions." Gives extensive, detailed list of contents. Includes 28 pages of Kwagu'ł dictionary. Asks whether best to work on dictionary completion or maps next. Writing now about crying of the Dzonoq!wa and Mink's way of speaking. Will go to Gwa'yi and Dzawadi for information on clover beds and olachen traps of each nEmemot.
Received letters of June 27 and July 22. Both David's child and his eldest daughter died recently. Hopes missing pages turn up. Has not received check for much of recent work nor word on how work on maps will be paid for. (Over 600 names written down already.) Gives details of accounts and pages of unpaid work. Will write next on Mink and Dzonoq!wa.
