Is working on writing about different kinds of cooking. Work is going slowly as children are very sick with measles. Is taking photos of cooking as well. Very bad weather lately. Half of Mama̱liliḵa̱la village at Fort Rupert washed away. Large sandstone carving was found that has been offered for sale to Hunt. May have been back piece for seat of Maxwa, Mama̱liliḵa̱la chief at Fort Rupert before 1849. Will send photos of it to see if Boas wants it. Would welcome Boas visit to Fort Rupert or trip to New York if called upon.

Tried to take photo of the slab but it isn't a good one. Is sending it and other photos. Cold weather made developing plates difficult. No fresh fish so couldn't take photos of salmon or halibut. Sending 108 pages on oolichan cooking. Would Boas like subsequent writing about cooking to be just about the cooking or about the whole process surrounding it, from net-making onward, as he did with this info on oolichan. Got two nanakawalił hEmesewe for Mr. Heye with old Indian blue paint that indicates they were made prior to 1849.
